About Zion

Our History

Zion Church is an Amharic Pentecostal church that was first formed in 1992 by a few believers who came from overseas. Among those believers was Brother Huluf Abrahama as the leader. This strong, biblically based, Jesus-cantered, and Holy Spirit-filled church grew slowly into today’s church. Today, God has blessed Zion Church to grow and raise a new generation that is hungry for God by forming the English-speaking Solid Rock Youth Church(now Revive Church). Zion Church is a place where God’s presence is manifested, and people’s lives are transformed. At Zion Church, God is greatly glorified, honoured, and worshipped.

The meaning behind Zion was taken from the scripture found in Psalms 132:13-14, “For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.” In the Old Testament, God dwelled on Mount Zion to be among His people. The New Testament, however, defines us as God’s dwelling, “…we are his house…” Hebrews 3:6, thus, we are the new Zion. In Zion Church, there is always a feast of God’s tangible presence that brings freedom, fullness of joy, restoration, deliverance, and, most of all, salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. We at Zion Church strongly believe that we are here in this great nation of Australia by a specific plan, purpose, and assignment of God. This is to seek His face, to worship Him, to make disciples, to raise a God-fearing and honouring family, to raise a generation that becomes a solution and answer to today’s society’s challenges, and to acquire the identity of Christ and grow into His likeness, impacting our community and beyond with the gospel of grace.

Our Faith Statement:

“All Scripture is breathed out by God, and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

In other words, we believe that the Bible is God’s word, that it is true, and that it is powerful. All our doctrinal beliefs start there — in the Bible itself.

We believe in Jesus Christ: His deity, true humanity, virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension, and anticipated visible return to earth to usher in His Kingdom.

We believe that all men everywhere are lost and face the judgment of God, that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation, and that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ results in regeneration by the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the person and present ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling enables the Christian to live a godly life.

We believe that to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptized in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts and bear fruits in His kingdom.

We believe healing is provided in the redemptive work of Christ and is available to every believer.

We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ as we wait for the day of his glorious appearance.

We believe in the application of Scripture to issues, including but not limited to the sanctity of life in the womb, the Creator’s assignment of gender as male and female, and the framework of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

We believe that the Church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He gave His Church the ordinances of baptism and communion. The Church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ and further advance His kingdom by undoing the works of the enemy, preaching and living the good news of God’s love, and discipling the nations – baptizing and teaching them to love and obey God.

We believe in the ever-increasing government of God and in the Blessed Hope, which is the glorious, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to rule and reign with His overcoming bride – the Church.

We believe that heaven and hell are real places. There will be a resurrection of the lost and the saved, the one to everlasting death and the other to everlasting life.

Our Values

As He loved us and gave us His life as the atoning sacrifice, we love Him and love one another.

Always giving a proper place and value to God and people allows us to receive from God and people too.

God gave us His only begotten Son; through Him, everything we need. We partake in His nature to be generous to others.

As we receive mercy from Him, we pass it on regardless of the pain it may cause.

As this is who our God is, we are called to imitate Him.

Embracing the beauty of Christianity involves denying ourselves, taking up the cross, and following the Master.

We believe that our God is pleased with it and makes Him active and work among us. Alternatively, “The only way the realm of God operates effectively.”

In the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the anchor of our souls. We never take our eyes off this hope.

We have an authentic and genuine desire to live for and serve the Master.

As Jesus prayed, and as He and the Father are one in perfect unity, we must make every effort to keep it at the centre.

We focus on Christ’s mission to reach out to the lost.
